We got tired of following the storm chasers
If you’ve lived in the Rio Grande Valley through a hail season, you know the pattern. The storm passes, and within days the out-of-state trucks are rolling through neighborhoods knocking doors.
The pitch is always the same. Your roof is destroyed. Your insurance will pay for a whole new one. Sign here, today, before this price goes away.
Sometimes there really is that much damage. Often there isn’t. We’ve climbed onto plenty of roofs that another company had already written off, and found a cracked pipe boot and some lifted flashing — a few hundred dollars of work standing between the homeowner and a five-figure invoice they didn’t need.
What bothered us most wasn’t the dishonesty. It was that homeowners had no way to tell the difference. You can’t see your own roof. You’re relying entirely on the word of whoever climbed up there, and that person is usually paid a commission on the size of the job they sell you.
So we removed that incentive. Nobody at RGV Roofing Company makes more money by recommending a bigger job. We inspect, we photograph, we hand you the evidence, and we tell you what we’d do if it were our house.
Four things we do on purpose
None of these are industry standard. That’s rather the point.
No commissioned sales
The person who inspects your roof isn’t paid more for selling you a replacement. That single structural decision changes the quality of the advice you get more than any promise we could make.
You keep the evidence
Every inspection produces a written report with photographs, and it’s yours regardless of whether you hire us. Take it for a competing bid if you want. We’re fine with that.
We’re here next year
We live in the Valley. Our kids go to school here. When a warranty question comes up in year four, there’s still someone local to call — not a phone number that was disconnected after the season ended.
Fixed written prices
You get an itemized price before work starts, including a stated per-sheet rate for any decking we find. No surprise additions, no “while we were up there” charges without your approval.
Licensed, bonded, insured
The basics matter, and plenty of operations working the Valley after a storm can’t produce them on request.
- Fully licensed roofing contractor
- Bonded and carrying general liability coverage
- Workers’ compensation coverage on our crews
- Certificates of insurance available on request
- Written workmanship warranty on every job
- Manufacturer material warranties registered on your behalf
Ask us for documentation. Ask everyone.
Any contractor should be able to hand you proof of insurance without hesitation. If someone can’t, or gets defensive about the question, that’s the answer to a different question you were about to ask.
What you can expect from us
Roofing has a deserved reputation for being a frustrating industry to deal with. Here’s our end of the bargain.
- We answer the phone. And if we miss you, we call back the same day.
- We show up when we said. If weather or a job runs long, you get a call, not silence.
- We explain things plainly. No jargon designed to make you feel like you can’t question the recommendation.
- We clean up completely. Full debris haul and a magnetic sweep of the property for nails.
- We stand behind the work. If something we installed fails because of how we installed it, we come back.
- We tell you when to do nothing. Sometimes the right recommendation is to wait a couple of years. We’ll say so.
Roofing in the Rio Grande Valley is its own problem
National best practices weren’t written for a subtropical climate that also gets hail and hurricanes.
Heat degrades asphalt shingles faster here than almost anywhere else in the country. Humidity feeds algae and accelerates the breakdown of organic materials. Hail arrives most years. And from June through November there’s a real chance of a named storm coming up the Gulf.
That combination changes what we specify and how we install it. Ventilation matters more here. Underlayment choice matters more here. Fastening patterns and wind ratings matter more here. A crew that learned roofing in a mild climate and moved down last season doesn’t know any of that yet — and your roof is where they’ll find out.
Straight answers, solid work
The same thing keeps coming up in our reviews: we showed up, we told the truth, and we did what we said we’d do.
Not sure what your roof needs?
We’ll climb up, take photos, and give you a straight answer — repair, replace, or leave it alone. No cost, no obligation, no hard sell.
